The beautiful colonial building that houses this hotel was built in the late 19th-century and opened its doors to welcome some of the earliest tourists to arrive in Guadalajara. Years later, it was expanded and remodeled to become Hotel Morales Historical & Colonial Downtown, a prestigious hotel and the first to showcase the tradition of bullfighting. Over the years, the hotel has hosted famous bullfighters and celebrities such as Maria Felix and Cantinflas.
This historic building retains its original architecture, which has been carefully preserved throughout the restoration process, and features a unique blend of classic neo-colonial design and modern amenities.
It is rumored that there exist underground tunnels connecting Hotel Morales Historical & Colonial Downtown with the San Francisco convent, yet little is known about the date or purpose of their construction. Thses myseterious tunnels are just part of the reason why this historic building is protected by the Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia (National Institute of Anthropology and History) or INAH.
